Excerpt:"There; that's the lot hidden," Sean heard his father say. The other man whose voice Sean couldn't recognize replied, "We might need them after the big bomb on Wednesday, Kevin." "Aye, maybe Johnny. Come on, let's head down. I have a meetin' tonight to finalize plans fer Wednesday." Sean saw them move off and was relieved. But instead of heading off in the other direction, he grew curious. Looking left and right he slipped over to where his father and his companion had been bending. He studied the ground carefully. Searching around he found a piece of broken branch and began to scratch hard at the ground. Soon he had exposed a piece of thick cloth. He bent over and pulled hard on it, falling back. He righted himself and took a look, shocked by what he had unearthed, guns, bullets and what looked like bombs. Some long rifles lay below these wrapped in oily black cloth. "Guns and rifles! What does my Da want with guns?" He glanced about, then quickly began to bury the cache back up again, doing his best to leave the weapons as he had found them. |
